Judy Hauser

Judy HauserJudy Hauser Handles Multitude of Tasks

Barberton's Person of the Year is someone with a multitude of jobs and responsibilities that often do not garner her the kudos and respect they should.

"I guess that's the life of a club manager and barmaid," sighs Judy, who has been employed in the Slovene Center private club for the past 10 years. "But there are pluses," she quickly adds.

"The best times are when we have a group of club members who come to enjoy themselves and appreciate the good service we try to provide to all our customers," she says. "That's when you don't mind running from one end of the bar to the other handling orders."

Judy and her husband Bob, Barberton's 2008 Person of the Year, have been associated with the club and have been members of the Slovenian Independent Society Home for some 25 years.

It wasn't until 10 years ago that she became a barmaid and four years later the club manager, replacing her recently retired mother-in-law Donna Hauser, who was a past person of the year honoree.

"I should point out that in addition to the private club, I'm also responsible for ordering   refreshments and snack food for our bowling operation," she notes. 'That, plus handling janitorial services for both operations."

A talented cook, Judy prepares food for the club's frequent raffles, including the preparation of most of the side dishes for delicious deep fried turkey dinner raffles and for the weekly Friday afternoon polka jam sessions.

Another important job she performs is coordinating and selling fund-raising tickets for various club activities as well as for the federation. That includes the annual New Year's Eve party, plus one or two trips to Indians' ball games each year.

Yet, there are times for personal enjoyment. "Bob and I take occasional trips to Vegas," she says, adding, "We also enjoy camping and fishing." Although the current economic crisis has crimped club business, Judy is hopeful that the recent installation of Keno will bring in club members who have not frequented the club in months or years.

A native of Norton, Ohio, Judy has been married to Bob for 28 years.
